A few weeks ago, I had a trip planned to visit my daughter’s family in Chicago. However, when I started packaging, I realized that I needed to pack my barely finished diamond painting too. I cannot bear traveling 2 whole weeks without placing any drills. This problem needed a solution immediately.
Luckily I was able to figure out the right preparation and travel accessories needed to get my diamond painting kit to Chicago with me and yes, my trip included flying on an airplane. I felt so happy with my decision not to leave my diamond painting kit at home. My grandkids loved seeing and helping me with my WIP.
Now, I would love to share these travel tips with my fellow diamond painting enthusiasts. So here goes nothing. I hope you find this useful!
TIP 1: USE A PUZZLE CARRIER FOR YOUR CANVAS
Puzzle carriers could be your lifesaver when travelling. It helps keep your canvas rolled tight and protects it from any damage during your travels. Just head over on Amazon and pick your favorite.
There are many different types of puzzle carriers but I recommend a carrier with an inflatable tube and roll-up mat to ensure your diamonds are locked in place.
Make sure to roll your canvas with the diamonds facing outward so that it will not cause creases to your canvas.
TIP 2: CONSIDER A PORTFOLIO TO TRANSPORT YOUR CANVAS OR LIGHT PAD
If you don’t like the thought of rolling up your diamond painting in a puzzle carrier, you may want to consider a portfolio case. These bags are great because they are lightweight and water resistant so you know your diamond painting will be safe during your travels. You can also keep your light pad from dirt and dust with this bag.
In case you really want to take your large canvas with you, this protection briefcase might help. However, I don’t recommend you bring a big size project while traveling.
TIP 3: USE SPILL-FROOF VIALS FOR YOUR DIAMONDS
The normal, everyday diamond storages you have are great for at home use but not so much for traveling. You are going to want something that is more secure like a “spill proof” vial with caps that screw on tightly and are not going to go anywhere. You are also going to need a durable case to carry these vials in that has a zipper and foam inserts to keep everything locked in and secure. That way, you won’t experience any nasty diamond spills.
My recommendation is a small Bead Storage Handbag that could store all of colors you need for your travel project.
TIP 4: BRING AN ADJUSTABLE EASEL FOR LONG JOURNEY
This adjustable wooden easel with storage is perfect for riding in the car or sitting in the airplane, especially when you have a long trek in front of you. It provides the least amount of stress on your neck, shoulders, and wrists while you are painting away. Plus, it has storages inside for you to store and organize your tools and drills as well as a firm handle to take your painting kit around.
TIP 5: BRING A SMALLER DIAMOND PAINTING KIT
This tip seems obvious but traveling with a smaller kit is definitely a lot more manageable. I recommend packing a canvas not bigger than 50×75 cm. But hey, your choice and it depends on how long you will be away of course! Make sure to have time for your beloved and enjoy your trip too!
TIP 6: DON’T SPEND THE ENTIRE TRIP DIAMOND PAINTING
Diamond painting can be so addicting and such a great time but remember to put your pen down, enjoy the beautiful landscape and other activities while you’re traveling. Your diamond paintings will still be there when you get back home and there will always be more new designs to complete!
