Where To Start A Diamond Painting

Where to start 1 - 5D Diamond Painting Kits | Pretty Neat Creative

You might have started your first diamond painting or paint with diamonds recently, which isn’t new to you anymore, isn’t it? This new hobby has become a new craze for all types of crafters. People young and old love to neatly place tiny rhinestone crystals into a canvas to create colorful patterns.

At the same time, they train their brain to focus and improve fine motor skills. It helps that when you’re finished, you end up with a beautiful painting that would look great on any wall.

The most common question in our Craft Community is Where to start a project? If you are an expert, that is so easy to answer but it’s quite difficult to newbies. Because of that, we are here for you!

Once you know what to do, you can find the project both relaxing and rewarding. Here we go!!

A. Right Handed Person

There are 2 common ways for you to refer to:

  1. You can start your project at the bottom right so your arms don’t stick to the canvas, not lose its stickiness. Then peel a section of plastic up as you go.
    • Bottom to top
    • Right to left
    • Section by section. Do 4×4 squares, one color at a time. When the square is complete, then move to the next square across.

2. The top left is also a good start for you. So this way you work section by section across to the right. Then come back to the left to start the next row. You are never drawing your arm over your completed work.

    • Top to bottom
    • Left to right
    • Section by section. Do 4×4 squares, one color at a time. When the square is complete, then move to the next square across.

B. Left Handed Person

There are 2 options for you:

  1. Start at top right, moving across to the left then move down again at the right moving to left. That way, you never touch the finished diamonds.
    • Top to bottom
    • Right to left
    • Section by section. Do 4×4 squares, one color at a time. When the square is complete, then move to the next square across.

However, there is no wrong or right way to do it. Sometimes it could be in squares, sometimes it could be by colors. Just do it how you want to, even starting in the middle!

  2. Mary Johnson says:

I always start my diamond paintings in the upper left corner and work one color in a 40×30 area, then the next color from the corner, etc. When finished with that area, O use my alignment tool to straighen up my rows across, then up and down. I am left handed.

  3. Annelle says:

I go from top to bottom, but I just pull down the plastic cover about 2 inches at a time and fill that in. This works for me.

  4. Right hander says:

The first picture I started, I started from the top left. I soon discovered this didn’t work for me. Found it uncomfortable, I am right handed. Changed to bottom right, this felt more natural. Finished my picture working diagonal up and across.
