The Best Ways To Flatten A Diamond Painting Canvas

Have you ever been annoyed by a creased art canvas? I'm sure you're not the only one who feels this way. To make sure that any of these problems don’t bother you, we’ve got everything you need to know about using one of these methods to remove wrinkles from a diamond painting canvas. We have compiled the “3 Tips to flatten diamond painting canvas” series that will take your diamond painting experience to the next level.

Why do wrinkles appear in Diamond Paintings?

Canvas is a plain-woven fabric typically made out of cotton and, to a lesser extent, linen. Just like clothing, the canvas is very easily creased. Especially during shipping, we can not avoid these issues.

How to remove wrinkles?

Before moving any tips, for perfect results, you'll need a clear and flat surface right under your canvas. As a result, it's best to start painting while sitting at your study table or on the floor in a comfortable spot.

Tip 1: Using an iron

You need:

  • An iron
  • A very soft blanket
  • Parchment paper
  • A super careful mind

Action steps:

  • Replace the clear plastic cover on your canvas with parchment paper, or the cover will melt on your canvas while ironing.
  • Set the iron at the lowest heat.
  • Lay down the diamond painting canvas on a flat surface. Cover the surface entirely with a towel.
  • Put a canvas on top. Make sure that the canvas is flat and not curling.
  • Spray water on the creased area to make it softer.
  • Gently and quickly iron around the wrinkles. Remember that you have to be super careful, don’t put pressure on your canvas.
  • If your canvas still has some creased marks after these steps, just spray it and iron again.

Take notes:

This method is risky, don’t overuse it. In case you decide to do, please follow all steps above with a very careful mind or your canvas will be destroyed.

Tip 2:  Using heavy objects

You need:

  • Heavy things like books, heavy board, or heavy ornament.
  • A tape.
  • A flat surface, like a tabletop or marble slab.

Action steps:

  • Carefully unfurl the diamond art canvas.
  • Place the heavy object on top of the stretched canvas.
  • Wait overnight.

Take notes:

Although it is the easiest method for removing creases and wrinkles from a canvas, it may not be the most efficient. Please refer to the next alternative, which is mentioned below, if this does not happen the way you expect it to.

Tip 3: Using a heating pad

You need:

  • Heating pad.
  • A flat surface, like a tabletop or marble slab.

Action steps:

  • Lay a towel down on a flat surface.
  • Place the heating pad on top.
  • Add another towel on top.
  • Place your canvas on top of that towel.
  • Add something with a bit of weight on canvas.
  • Allow 10–15 minutes for the canvas to cool before turning off the pad.

Take notes:

Please ensure care while using a heating pad. Turn the heating pad on to low or medium heat if you don’t want to destroy your canvas before you even start the work.
